144 Hz Monitor Vs. 240 HZ Monitor – The Better Option?

gaming monitor and setup

To put a long-standing debate to an end, let’s draw a comparison between the 144Hz monitor and the 240Hz monitor to see what will prevail in the end.

Refresh Rate

Simply put, a refresh rate is the number of times the displayed image is refreshed per second. For instance, the 144Hz refreshes an image every 6.94ms while the 240Hz monitor refreshes an image every 4.17ms. Now, what does that mean for you? A higher refresh rate means better video quality, lower eye strain, and a better, more exciting gaming experience.

Overall, it is assumed that the difference isn’t all that major unless you’re a gaming enthusiast, but for someone really into simulators or FPS, the 240 Hz Monitor is the way to go!

Pricing

The 144 Hz monitor price in Pakistan ranges from somewhere between Rs 39,000 to Rs 45,000, while the 240 Hz monitor price in Pakistan is (more or less) around Rs 70,000.

That’s an estimated Rs 30,000 difference. If high-end visuals are your jam, the price difference is absolutely worth every Rupee. However, if you’re more of a casual gamer, the 144HZ monitor is probably the more budget-friendly option.

Efficiency

While the 144Hz monitor and 240Hz monitor are considered equally efficient when it comes to getting the job done, once you go for 240Hz, you never go back to any other option!

The difference might be minute for many, but a major for tech enthusiasts. The 240HZ monitor is much smoother and really does give you an incredible gaming experience.

System Requirement

Can your GPU handle a 240Hz Monitor? Not only your GPU but the 240Hz monitor comes with a set of system requirements. For instance, the processor must at least be an i-5 8400, even though an i-7 8700 is preferable. The RAM should be 3000+ MHz (or just slightly lower), and the graphic card should be GTX 1070  or higher.

So if upgrading your entire system is not on the agenda, the 144 Hz monitor is a viable option.

Aesthetic Value

A 240Hz gaming monitor used to be a luxury a few years ago but now, thanks to increased competition and the lower gaming monitor price in Pakistan, it is most certainly not a long length to go for smoother gaming!

Both the 144Hz monitor and 240 Hz monitor come in multiple aesthetically pleasing designs, the most impressive being the curved monitor that provides some of the most immersive experiences one can possibly get.

Input Lag

A 144 Hz monitor has a 7ms input lag, while a 240 Hz monitor has a 4.16ms input lag. A higher refresh rate ensures a lower input lag. That’s great and all, but what is an input lag? It is the time that it takes for data to transfer from your controller to the screen. This might not be a big deal for an average gamer, but for someone playing professionally, this can really make all the difference between winning or losing a game. Of course, updating your monitor won’t automatically make you more skilled (that only comes with practice), but an upgrade can make the experience smoother and more efficient!

The Better Option?

The better option solely depends on the needs of the player. If a quick, fun game with a couple of friends is all you want or to blow off some steam at the end of your day without spending too much money, then maybe the 144Hz monitor is for you. With that said, if you’re taking up gaming for competitions or are just a hardcore gaming enthusiast, then the 240Hz monitor is the only answer!
