The MSI MAG B660M motherboard is a low-cost Micro ATX option, priced at Rs 41,300. It is ideal for those looking to invest in an Alder Lake-based system for less than the Z690 price. It has two M.2 sockets, Wi-Fi 6, and good overall performance for a Micro-ATX motherboard.
Features
MSI’s MAG B660M is an excellent foundation for building low-cost gaming PCs. Given that there appear to be fewer and fewer USB ports on a motherboard’s rear panel, the Mortar has a strong USB game. It has eight back-panel ports and a slew of internal headers on the board itself. Realtek provides 2.5Gbps networking, and Intel provides WiFi 6. The top Z690 boards include 10Gbps LAN and WiFi 6E. To round out the experience, the B660M Mortar WiFi has WiFi 6 technology, 2.5G LAN, and a USB 3.2 20 Gbps port for those who need to transfer data quickly.
Design
The MSI MAG B660M Mortar WiFi DDR4 has a dual VRM with 12 power stages, PCIE 4.0, and two M.2 sockets. It continues MSI’s budget-friendly military theme. Moreover, the DDR4 model has a black 6-layer PCB with no patterns or designs. The large silver heatsinks contrast with the board, as do the black MSI, MAG, and Mortar branding. It’s a simple look that doesn’t stand out on its own. It won’t win any beauty pageants, but it also doesn’t look cheap. If you want to use RGB lighting, you’ll need to purchase it separately and connect it using the onboard headers.
Starting with the top half of the board, on the left side, we can see the large VRM heatsinks that surround the socket. Plus, there’s enough surface area and mass here to keep the power delivery components cool. Additionally, two 8-pin EPS connectors (one required) are located between the heatsinks to power the processor.
